I am interning at Center for American Progress, which is a progressive policy think tank, under their Women’s Health and Rights program. My main focus will be researching policy related to women’s health care and reproductive justice. Through this internship, I hope to gain hands on experience with policy and research related to women’s rights, and learn how this can actually make a difference in the status of women in the United States. Just from my first two days, I can tell I am going to have to learn how to research efficiently and effectively if I want to go into this field. I have never done very rigorous research, so this will be a great learning experience for me. I have also already learned a lot more about health care policy for women in the United States from my research, so I hope to gain a decent amount of knowledge on that subject during my time here. Professionally, I hope to make connections with not only my supervisors and co-workers in the Women ’s Health and Rights department, but also people from other departments of the organization, such as the Economics department and LGBT department.
